Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid that deserves particular attention as an important energy source for cells in the intestinal tract and its multiple beneficial effects on vital intestinal function. In the digestive tract, butyrate is naturally present in high concentrations in the lumen of the large intestine.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate three different selenium (Se) sources: sodium selenite (NaSe), selenium-yeast (SeYeast) and L-selenomethionine (SeMet) in their potential to affect blood and milk Se levels. A feeding trial was set-up with 26 high producing Holstein Friesian cows.
