Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) is a raw material that is widely used in animal feeds. In ruminants, it is known for its buffering capacity by stabilizing rumen pH. In monogastrics, sodium bicarbonate is a useful and safe tool to optimise the dietary electrolyte balance and enhance feed intake and performance.

Ruminal acidosis is a commonly occurring problem in high producing dairy cows, feedlot cattle, and sheep reared under intensive finishing systems. Bicar®Z reduces the risk of rumen acidosis by increasing the buffering capacity of the rumen and stabilizing rumen pH. Bicar®Z is also used in poultry and swine diets as a source of sodium while avoiding a surplus of chloride. An optimised electrolyte balance in poultry and swine can improve performance and wellbeing by preventing a reduction in feed intake or improving litter quality, for example. During heat stress, Bicar®Z helps to sustain optimal layer performance and eggshell quality.
