The Camden Trading Group (Manila, The Philippines) held its second installment of their feeding solutions webinar series, The Science of Experience: Rearing Immunocompetent Animals Through Cellular Nutrition, on August 19th. This webinar covered the basics of the anti-oxidant apparatus of animals and the specific, important role that the element selenium plays. Invited speakers were Dr. Eakapol Wangkahart (Assistant Professor, Mahasarakham University, Thailand) and Mr. Brecht Bruneel (Central Technical Manager, Orffa Additives BV). The effects of a highly bioavailable selenium source, L-selenomethionine, on poultry, swine and aqua were discussed. Providing L-selenomethionine compared to inorganic selenium raises the immunocompetence and anti-oxidant status of animals resulting in improved growth and development.
